Job is not a “Golden Deer” for me if we get YES CENTER besides us

Wasim Hasnat : Bangladesh is a low middle income country. Our country is expecting to become a middle income country by 2021. For the economic growth, youth can play an advanced role in reaching the aim of Bangladesh becoming a middle income country. The youth of the country have already proven, that they have the ability to become drivers for change and growth in the social and the economic fields. But youth unemployment is a major problem for Bangladesh over the past decades. When young workers are not able to connect to the labour market, it profoundly impacts their ability to participate fully in the economy and threatens their social and economic future. Sometimes many young people could not get a proper job and could not work as per their ability and qualifications and as a result they could not utilize their ability, which often drives them into frustration. So nowadays a proper job is considered a “Golden Deer” among the educated male and female youth.  Besides, when we apply for any job we risk of not getting it due to lack of experience and skills.

Last year many times I also faced interviews for jobs, but I failed to get the job due to lack of experience and because I hadn’t received any skills training. Finally I had to admit, that  the “Golden Deer” was out-of-reach for me and the idea grew to think,  that getting a job means winning the jackpot of a lottery! And I felt frustrated…

A few months back I heard, that YES CENTER COX’S BAZAR has offered a “Hotel management course” for youth free of charge. Knowing about the course I communicated with the YES CENTER and after checking their campus and environment, I decided to enroll and finally I participated in this “Hotel Management Course”. The contents, facilitation, materials, logistics, training environment and the behavior of the responsible persons of the YES CENTER were too good. We learnt so many things from them and the course was interesting and demand-driven. There were practical classes and we also visited some renowned hotels in Cox’s Bazar and got a practical insight about the hotel management, which helped to build up our confidence.

After completing the course I felt as if I had been working in this hotel sector since long and the course also changed my perception about hotel sector. Now I am very much confident, that after completing my education, when I face any interview in the hotel sector I will be selected by the employers. Now I think that getting a job is not a “Golden Deer” for me as we have the YES CENTER behind us, supporting us. Besides other advantages, this training helped me to develop my personality, taught me to be conscious and changed my lifestyle. Along with the Hotel Management Course I also received a life skills training from the YES CENTER and I learnt how we can adopt and survive in a critical situation.  I am really grateful to the YES CENTER and I hope, that the YES CENTER will continue its training program and support for the youth and will have many good news for us in the future!
